PDO decided to upgrade the old Birba Cluster and started with FEED that was done by Abalto through Imtech and WPAI for PDO. Now in next step from FEED project is entering in detail design phase where again Abalto was awarded the specialist role of System Integrator SI for the detail design portion of BGS Control System and Safety System upgrade.

The challenge of this project and of one its main targets is to have the Control Systems and Instrumentation upgrade done online and with minimal disruption to the process, and not cause any production loss to PDO. In order to achieve this, Abalto has an experienced team of 12 engineers and designers deputed on the project to ensure all risks are identified and mitigated to achieve a smooth changeover from the old control system to the new one, and also to ensure a timely completion of the project.

EPIC for Installation of 20” Wet Gas Pipeline Between Khatiyah Main (KM) & Khatiyah South (KS) is a multi-million USD project for Qatar Petroleum.

The objective of this project is to provide a new 20” Wet Gas bi-directional Pipeline between KM and KS with associated facilities to avoid flaring by delivering 1st stage gas at KM to KS and vice versa during outage of gas compressor at KM or LP dehydration unit at KS.

Project Scope outline as follow

  • 5Km 20” Pipeline with pig launcher, receiver and slug catchers at both KM and KS
  • New ESD and F&G Systems at both KM and KS
  • Integration with existing DCS Systems at both KM and KS
  • 2 chemical injection skids at both KM&KS
  • Switchgear Modification at both KM and KS
  • Leak detection System

Abalto is supervising the pre-commissioning activities, and is responsible for safe and successful Commissioning, Startup and Handover processes of the project. Abalto Commissioning Engineers are performing problem free commissioning by following structured methodologies and procedures, drawing on lessons learned, and identifying and mitigating possible risks.

EPIC for Feed Stream Integration and Installation of Fiscal Metering Systems at Mesaieed is a USD 26Million project for Qatar Petroleum.

The project consists of two parts. Part One is to integrate the feed streams of NGL-1 and NGL-4 Plants coming from various sources in-order to process any of the feeds in any of the fractionation trains available in NGL-1 or NGL-4 Plants and these parts one contain:

  • 35 Piping Tie ins to live System at NGL-1/2/3&4
  • Around 3 Kilometres of Piping
  • New ESD and SCADA Systems at NGL1/2 and integration with Existing ESD System
  • Integration with Existing DCS and ESD Systems at NGL-3

Part Two is the installation of New Export Fiscal Metering Systems for Propane and Butane being loaded from NGL Jetty and common export Fiscal Metering System for Condensate being loaded from NGL Jetty and MPB, and these parts contain:

  • 3 Export Fiscal Metering Skids with 14 nos flow computers
  • 26 Piping Tie ins to live Systems at NGL1/2
  • Integration with Existing F&G System at NGL1/2
  • New SCADA system covers in part one above
  • New UPS System
  • Switchgear Modification at S/S-41 at NGL2

Abalto have successfully commissioned and started up 3 Filters at Qatar Petroleum. The projects was for Panorama, a local Qatari EPC and was done without a plant shutdown.
